YOU’RE FIRED: The Replacements

Following up on last week’s column of coaches on the hot seat, I will look at the potential replacements for those teams.  For purposes of the article I am going to assume that every coach I list on the hot seat, with the exception of Tom Cable.  So if you are a fan of the other nine teams, here is a look at who I think will be your next head coach and why:

Washington Redskins: This hire is going to come from a new GM or President of Football Operations as I also believe the Vin man will be gone.  Most are speculating Mike Shanahan will get the job, but I don’t see it happening.  He will use his position to leverage for the job he wants.  The guy who will be hired will be an offensive mind, there is no doubt about that.  He will also have to be able to work well with a GM. So for those of you hoping for Bill Cowher or Mike Holmgren, think again.  And if you watched the game on Monday night, a certain announcer was sucking up to a lot of the Redskins players.  He went as far as saying DeAngelo Hall is a great tackler. And for anyone who watches the Skins play, they know that is the furthest thing from the truth. The next Redskins coach: Jon Gruden

YOU’RE FIRED: 10 Coaches on the Hot Seat

After this week each team will have nine or ten games remaining, so it is now fair to speculate what coaches could be on the outs and who could be filling their shoes.  There are a lot of big name coaches out there itching to get back into it.  So today I take a look at which coaches I believe won’t be returning to their teams next season.

Jim Zorn, Washington Redskins: While he probably isn’t an NFL head coach, he is definitely getting a raw deal in Washington.  He was originally hired to be the offensive coordinator and has now had his play calling duties stripped by management.  If Zorn wouldn’t lose the money due to him, he would resign.  Instead the weird situation in DC is probably only going to get stranger the last 10 weeks of the season.  Goodbye Jim Zorn and good luck in your future endeavors.  Chance: 100%

Wade Phillips, Dallas Cowboys: If the Cowboys don’t make the playoffs Phillips is gone.  He just isn’t a good head coach and never really has been going back to his previous stints.  With an owner that expects championships and a team that doesn’t have championship talent, it is tough to expect a mediocre coach to get them there. He is best suited to be a defensive coordinator somewhere. Chance: 85%
