Walking the Waiver Wire – 4 Guys to Consider

Here are this week’s top free agents, depending on your league size:

Vince Young (Tennessee Titans – QB) – Young is finally showing flashes of why the Titans made him a top 10 pick. He is cutting down on the mistakes that have plagued him early on in his career. His 387 yard passing effort had to be a surprise to all of those watching, including myself. He is the #8 fantasy QB in standard scoring leagues over the past three weeks – ahead of household names such as Phillip Rivers and Tony Romo. He has a couple solid matchups coming down the line and could be a valuable asset as the Colts, Saints and Vikings sit their stud QB’s.

Here are this week’s top free agent pickups, depending on your league size:

Jason Snelling (Atlanta Falcons – RB) – With starter Michael Turner going down with the dreaded high ankle sprain, Snelling will have the opportunity to step up for the Falcons. Last week, he performed more than adequately by putting up 93 yards and a touch vs. Carolina. Even though this week’s matchup vs. the Giants isn’t a favorable one, expect 20 or so carries and a possible touchdown. Typically, the type of injury … Continue Reading

Here are three players that may be available in your league, depending on roster sizes:

Ladell Betts (Washington Redskins – RB) – I realize that the Redskins are struggling as an offense. If Clinton Portis couldn’t do it, why would Ladell Betts be able to? Well, as I have mentioned in previous articles, to have a starting running back on your roster that has no competition for carries is rare these days. As long as Portis is out, you have think about giving Betts a start, but only based on his matchups. Last week against the Falcons after Portis was concussed, Betts played well with 15 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 23 yards.  Look for Betts to get 20+ carries this week vs. the Broncos.

Betts: Waiver pick 7 or higher (long term) or good fill in this week if you have injury/bye (short term)

Here are this week’s top waiver wire pick-ups for Week 8 depending on league size:

Shonn Green (New York Jets – RB) – With Leon Washington going down in Week 7, the talented rookie from Iowa will finally get his chance to shine. The Jets, with one of the best offensive lines in football, will continue to pound the ball as they protect rookie QB Mark Sanchez from making mistakes. They will only play one team who ranks in the top 10 vs. the run for the remainder of the year.  If Green gets Washington’s 10-15 carries a game, he will be a strong flex play moving forward.

Green: Worth waiver pick 1 and up

Here are this week’s top waiver wire pick-ups for Week 7 depending on league size:

Michael Crabtree – (San Francisco 49ers – WR)– Remember this guy? Crabtree, only a couple weeks after signing, has been thrusted into the starting lineup by Mike Singletary. Either Mike has gone crazy, the 49ers current receivers are really that bad, or this dude has got talent. While this is Frank Gore’s team, Crabtree may have some talent as a WR3 on your team, depending on the looks he is getting from Shaun Hill. Add Crabtree if you can but don’t expect much production for a couple weeks.

Crabtree: Worth waiver pick 7 and up

Lance Moore – (New Orleans Saints – WR) – A few weeks ago I said to pick this guy up. After his strong Week 6 performance, it may be too late for you. He looked to be on the same page with Drew Brees all game, hauling in six catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. Moore has a chance to be the NFC’s version of Wes Welker, playing in a high octane offense with the best QB in the league.

Moore: Worth waiver pick 3 and up

Mike Bell – (New Orleans Saints – RB) – He’s bacccckkkk and ready to frustrate Pierre Thomas owners. Bell took over in garbage time against the Giants in Week 6, amassing 15 carries for 34 yards and a touchdown.  If the injury prone Thomas was to go down again, Bell would take over and possibly never look back. He is a must handcuff.

Bell: Worth waiver pick 5 and up

Laurence Maroney – (New England Patriots – RB) – As I write this I’m thinking to myself, “Am I really writing this?”  One of the bigger fantasy busts this season has been the dreadlocked one, Laurence Maroney. Regardless, 2009 is the year of the RBBC and if someone is actually getting 15-20 carries a game, they have to be on your roster. It’s uncertain how serious Sammy Morris’ injury is so picking up Maroney could be pointless if he is back in Week 7. With Billy B, you just won’t know until game time.

Maroney: Worth waiver pick 4 and up.

Here are your top waiver wire pick-ups for Week 6, depending on league size:

Miles Austin (Dallas Cowboys – WR) – WOW! I didn’t see that coming….but then again it was against the Kansas City Chiefs, so please take that into consideration when assessing Austin’s future productivity. His career performance on Sunday should thrust him into the starting lineup and move Patrick Crayton to the slot, where he belongs. On the other side of the field is Roy E. Williams, who seems to be the only one who actually thinks he is a true #1 WR.  With that said, Austin could put up decent numbers moving forward.

Austin: Worth waiver pick 5 to 10

Jeremy Maclin (Philadelphia Eagles – WR) – Jeremy Maclin was given the start in Week 5 in place of the injured Kevin Curtis and he didn’t disappoint. His final numbers – 142 receiving yards and 2 TD’s, with an insane 23.7 yards per reception. Similar to Austin though, he did this against a poor Tampa Bay pass defense. With the way McNabb distributes the ball, Maclin could put up a goose egg next week so keep your expectations tapered.

Maclin: Worth waiver pick 7 to 10

Hakeem Nicks (New York Giants – WR) – While Mario Manningham was the guy just a few weeks ago, it appears that Hakeem Nicks is now taking the spotlight.  He put up the best performance of his young career against the Raiders, hauling in 4 passes for 49 yards and 1 TD, all while showing impressive speed and separation. Nicks is no more than a bye week fill-in at this point, but he will get better as the season progresses and may land in WR3 territory.

Nicks: Worth waiver pick 8 to 10

Here are this week’s top free agents that could be available in your league, depending on roster sizes:

Jerome Harrison (Cleveland Browns – RB) – With Jamal Lewis sitting Week 4 out with a pulled hammy, Jerome Harrison got the start for the offensively challenged Brownies.  With no competition for carries since pre-season darling James Davis got put on IR, Harrison got 34 touches and produced 156 yards.  In the new world of RBBC’s, it’s refreshing to see someone get 25 plus carries a game, regardless of his skill … Continue Reading

Here are this week’s top 5 free agents that could be available in your league, depending on roster sizes:

Glen Coffee (RB, San Francisco 49ers): Early reports have Frank Gore out the next three weeks with an ankle injury. Rookie Glen Coffee stepped in after Gore went down but didn’t exactly impress, rushing for only 54 yards on 25 carries against a stout Vikings run defense. Over the next two weeks the Niners will take on St. Louis and Atlanta. With a week of preparation as the go-to guy, expect Coffee to generate RB2 fantasy numbers.

Coffee: Worth your top 3 waiver pick

Rogers’ Report – Week 3

September 27, 2009 Uncategorized No Comments

Coming to you LIVE from Hermosa Beach, the Rogers’ Report will feature fantasy football information ranging from ‘starts’ and ‘sits’ to player rankings. Let’s get into our Week 3 content:

Starts:
David Garrard (QB)
vs. Houston Texans (#22 in passing yards allowed) – Garrard bounced back from a poor Week 1 performance with 282 yards and 2 TDS vs. the Cardinals last week. This week, he’ll face a struggling Texans pass defense that has allowed 240.5 yards per game in 2009. Expect the Jags to play from behind and for Garrard to throw most of the second half – 225 yards and 2 scores … Continue Reading

Here are this week’s top 5 free agents that could be available in your league, depending on roster sizes:

Willis McGahee: Results of his demise were exaggerated. McGahee looked spry on his 15 carries vs. the Chargers and he was also the goal-line back throughout the afternoon, hitting paydirt twice. In fact, McGahee was the feature back by the end of the game as Ray Rice watched from the sideline. While it’s still believed that the Ravens will go with the ‘hot-hand” throughout the game, McGahee should have the most value in non-PPR leagues since he’s getting those goal-line TD opportunities.

Dustin Keller: Perhaps you weren’t a BumpAndRun.com reader last week when we told you to pick-up the second-year tight end. Keller put it to the Patriots with a TD in Week 2 and has Mark Sanchez keying on him when he needs a big play. This year, Keller already has 7 catches for 116 yards and a TD. Lock him in as a TE1 play moving forward. … Continue Reading
