Big Ben for Bradford — Why Not?

It’s time to get crazy Pittsburgh – real crazy.

You ready for what I’m about to say?

Trade Ben Roethlisberger to the St. Louis Rams for the #1 overall pick — Sam Bradford. Throw in an extra draft pick if need be.

Playing Devil’s Advocate with Brandon Marshall

The Broncos and Dolphins pulled off a blockbuster trade Wednesday that sent wide receiver Brandon Marshall to Miami in exchange for a 2nd round pick in this year’s draft and another 2nd rounder in 2011. Of course we won’t know which team got the better of the deal for quite some time but it’s always fun to speculate, no? Let’s play a little devil’s advocate:

McNabb Traded to Redskins for a 2nd Round Pick, 2011 Pick

Like many of you I’m still in shock, but here are ten quick-hit thoughts on McNabb to Washington:

1. Why would Philly trade Mac5 within the division? “Doing right” by McNabb is a terrible reason.

2. If the Redskins can now trade Jason Campbell for a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick, the McNabb acquisition makes perfect sense.

3. The Redskins may be signing old bones, but they’ll all be hungry to perform. Larry Johnson and Willie Parker’s deals are based solely on incentives and McNabb now has all the motivation in the world.

4. Mike Shanahan wants to win NOW, not 2-3 years down the road.

5. Kevin Kolb better win 10 games next season.

6. The Eagles have 11 picks in this year’s draft – not too shabby.

7. Memo to ‘Skins fans: you’ve been fleeced for aging veterans before (Jason Taylor the most recent example), don’t get too excited — yet.

8. Memo to Eagles fans: sometimes the grass isn’t always greener; be careful what you wish for.

9. Over/Under on arrests when McNabb makes his Burgundy and Gold debut at the Linc: 155

10. The NFC East just got really, really fun.

LT Lands with the Jets, Quinn to the Broncos

On this Selection Sunday, a few NFL headlines:

LaDainian Tomlinson agrees to a two-year deal with the New York Jets. ESPN’s Tim Graham thinks it’s a questionable move, especially when Thomas Jones reportedly gave NYJ the opportunity to match his deal with the Chiefs.

Mike Holmgren has a knack for QB’s — Brett Favre and Matt Hasselbeck being specific examples. He’s not feelin’ Brady Quinn. The Browns traded Quinn today to the Broncos for Peyton Hillis, a sixth-round draft pick in 2011, a conditional pick in 2012 and a ticket to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Don’t worry Kyle Orton, there is no quarterback controversy in Denver. You’re still the starter.

OchoCinco Instructs Erik Kuselias to Kiss the Baby

Damn, ESPN really angered @OGOchoCinco.

Apparently a few of the talking heads at the Worldwide Leader had some not so nice things to say about Chad’s “off-season projects” that include Dancing With the Stars and a new VH-1 dating reality show called “The Tournament” (Good Golly Miss Molly, I can’t wait).  … Continue Reading

Breaking News: Redskins Sign RB Larry Johnson

According to ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter (what else is new), the Redskins have signed free agent running back Larry Johnson to a three-year deal.

Mike Shanahan made it known earlier in the week that he’s a fan of Johnson’s, having coached against him for years in the AFC West.

Big Ben, Big Problems

Ben Roethlisberger, grow up son.

What, did you streak the quad too?

One would think that a two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback would have access to the finer things in life: gorgeous models, the inside track to A-list parties, private rooms at the most exclusive clubs — basically perks that the average 21-year-old frat kid dreams of. … Continue Reading

2010 Offseason Breakdown: NFC West

Throughout the months of February and March, Bump and Run will break down the needs of each NFL team as free agency and the draft approaches. Today, it’s the NFC West:

Arizona Cardinals: Hall-of-Fame quarterback: OUT. Party boy: IN. How scary is that if you’re a Cards fan? Matt Leinart will have the first crack at keeping Arizona atop of the NFC West, but the gap is quickly closing. The release of S Antrel Rolle and anticipated departure of LB Karlos Dansby puts the defense in a tough spot.

2010 Offseason Breakdown: NFC South Needs

Throughout the month of February, Bump and Run will break down the needs of each NFL team as free agency and the draft approaches. Today, we’re breaking down the NFC South:

Atlanta Falcons: After making the playoffs in Mike Smith’s first season as head coach, the Falcons took a small step back in 2009 (though they did post back-to-back winning seasons for the first time ever). Look for GM Thomas Dimitroff to pursue a playmaker on defense to complement DE John Abraham. On offense, Matty Ice should be able to generate 20-28 points per game with what he’s got. Adding another reliable pass catcher wouldn’t hurt though. … Continue Reading
