College Football Rewind & New Top 15
Week 1 of the college football season is a wrap and well it lived up to the expectations. It was a gigantic week for the top dogs in the non-automatic qualifier conferences. Boise St., TCU, Fresno St., Utah and BYU all took down teams from BCS conferences. In a major upset Jacksonville St., led by a freshman QB who was player of the year for football his senior year of high school in Alabama, took down Mississippi. Any SEC school could have had the kid, but chose not too because he also is a top baseball prospect. ECU beat Tulsa on the last play of the game. And two top ten schools did not live up to the hype and will drop in this week’s rankings.
As you can see I was 3-0 picking games this week on the site, and I was 2-1-1 against the spread not on the site. I hit my two big bets with Oregon St +13 and Boise ML +105. For those interested I will post the games I have “fun” with in the comments section of the weekly preview going forward. I will post them 30 minutes to an hour before they kickoff. And it could be any game so you’ll have to check back in or email me.
And here is your new BumpandRun.com Top 15 heading into Week 2:
1. Alabama (1-0): The Tide did what they were supposed to do without two of their best players. One will remain out against Penn St this week and Ingram is still questionable. Next: Penn St. (Saturday, 7:00)
2. Boise St. (1-0): They came, they saw, they did what they were supposed to do. Took down Va Tech in the opener on the road, yes it was a road game essentially. Next: Sept 18, @ Wyoming
3. Ohio St. (1-0): The only question for them is can Pryor get it done in the big game. We will find out this week as the Hurricanes come to town. Next: Miami Fl (Saturday, 3:40)
4. TCU (1-0): They contained the dynamic duo from Oregon St for the most part and ended up with the W. Next: Tennessee Tech (Saturday, 7:00)
5. Texas (1-0): Struggled with Rice early. It will be interesting to see if the new run first style offense can get it done against quality competition. Next: Wyoming (Saturday, 7:00)
6. Va Tech (0-1): Yes they did lose, and yes they deserve to move up in the rankings. If TT can play like that every week, I am not sure Tech loses again this season until their bowl game. Next: JMU (Saturday, 1:30)
7. Oregon (1-0): They won 72-0, didn’t score in the 4th quarter. Their back-up running back who started had 5 TD’s in the first half. Enough said. Next: @ Tennessee (Saturday, 7:00)
8. Miami Fl (1-0): The Canes got the W and are now ready for Ohio St. Next @ Ohio St. (Saturday, 3:40)
9. Iowa (1-0): They drop in the rankings. No, they did not play poorly, just the eight teams above them played better. Next: Iowa St. (Saturday, 3:30)
10. Oklahoma (1-0): They only beat Utah St by a TD. Kind of tough to figure out the Sooners just yet since I didn’t get to watch any of the game due to it being blacked out. Next: Fla St. (Saturday, 3:30)
11. Florida (1-0): They have talent and speed. But they couldn’t even snap the football on Saturday. Against any other competition they would have likely lost. Next: South Florida (Saturday, 12:20)
12. Utah (1-0): Took down Pittsburgh at home but more importantly to me they essentially stuffed Lewis and the running game. Next: UNLV (Saturday, 4)
13. Wisconsin (1-0): Went to Vegas and got the win against UNLV. Next: San Jose St. (Saturday, Noon)
14. Florida St. (1-0): They appear to be more explosive this year on offense under the new head coach. This week’s test will be a little tougher. Next: @ Oklahoma (Saturday, 3:30)
15. Pittsburgh (0-1): Yes they lost. But it was on the road and against Utah so no shame in that. They will bounce back. Next: New Hampshire (Saturday, 1)
