Fat Al’s Power Play
After a 23-3 drubbing by the Baltimore Ravens, ‘Skins nose tackle (just rubbing salt in the wound) Albert Haynesworth claimed that the organization was lying about his mid-week injuries and declared that he won’t be attending next off-season’s conditioning program.
Hey, at least he’s giving 8-months notice.
What does all of this mean you ask? It means that Shanahan will most likely come out a loser in this ridiculous player-coach saga, even though Redskins fans and a majority of the public seem to be in his corner.
Shanahan fooled himself if he thought for one second that towing a hard-line with a hard-head was going to work. Haynesworth should have been traded when the opportunity presented itself in the spring. Now, the organization is stuck with an overpaid, undermining load who couldn’t care less about how the new regime wants to conduct business. Keeping Fat Al on the roster and doing nothing about this little outburst Saturday night contradicts EVERYTHING Shanahan has tried to convey to Haynesworth and the rest of the team from day one. Cutting or trading Haynesworth this late in the game means that Shanahan waves the white flag and finally realizes that not even he can gain control of his overpaid inheritance.
Fat Al made his power play Saturday night by calling out his coach and the supposed ‘culture change’ in Ashburn. Show us what you got, Shanny.
