2010 Offseason Breakdown: AFC West Needs

Pat Greissing March 3, 2010 Daily Content No Comments

Throughout the months of February and March, Bump and Run will break down the needs of each NFL team as free agency and the draft approaches. Today, it’s the AFC West:

Denver Broncos: The Broncos started off last season in great fashion; however the collapse that followed the start was even bigger.  Hard to figure out exactly what caused the free fall, but one thing is certain: a lot of the players won’t be back with Josh McDaniels in 2010.

Key Unrestricted Free Agents: Ben Hamilton, OL; Vonnie Holiday, DE

Key Restricted Free Agents: Elvis Dumervil, LB; Brandon Marshall, WR; Kyle Orton, QB; Tony Scheffler, TE; Chris Kuper, OL

Needs: QB, WR, OL, DL

Kansas City Chiefs: The Chiefs began to show signs of life down the stretch. They began to play with a lot of heart and take on their coach’s personality. With some minor changes, KC could rebuild quickly.

Key Unrestricted Free Agents: Chris Chambers, WR; Mike Vrabel, LB; Wade Smith, OL

Key Restricted Free Agents: Derrick Johnson, LB

Needs: Resign Chris Chambers, OL, DB’s

Oakland Raiders: We know Tom Cable will be back as head coach, but who will be the starting QB??  The defense was decent at times last season. If Cable can get anything out of the offense, they could surprise people.

Key Free Agents: All of their backup QB’s because we know JaMarcus Russell won’t last; Langston Walker, OT; Thomas Howard, LB

Needs: QB, QB, QB, WR, LB’s

San Diego Chargers: Another great regular season ends in a bitter playoff disappointment.  The Chargers simply need to get more physical on both the offensive and defensive lines if they ever want to make it to the big game. Having just cut LT and possibly losing Sproles, the pass happy offense is most likely going to continue next season.

Key Unrestricted Free Agents: Kassim Osgood, WR, Special Teams

Key Restricted Free Agents: Malcom Floyd, WR; Vincent Jackson, WR; Shawne Merriman, LB; Darren Sproles, RB

Needs: OL, DL, and if they don’t resign those WR’s and Sproles, this team will be in a world of trouble.
