Bump and Run Players of the Week
Well this was one of those weekends that just didn’t make much sense. I mean Oakland?? The Redskins almost pulling off the major upset, Jeff Fisher with some questionable goal to go coaching decisions, the Dolphins somehow beating Tom Brady and the Pats, yet the MVP candidates are still just that.
Offense
Antonio Gates: He is the best tight end in the game. He just can make every single catch and this weekend became a deep threat on two occasions. While Gates didn’t get in the end zone he still finished with 8 catches for 167 yards. Gates = 1 point
Bruce Gradkowski: I said Pittsburgh’s D would make the Oakland QB look stupid, what I meant to say was Gradkowski would make the Steelers D look dreadful. He took the Raiders on the road and beat the Steelers. Yup you read that right, and he put up some great numbers as well. Grads threw for over 300 yards and three TD’s, including the game winner with 9 seconds left. Grads = 2 points
Kurt Warner: The concussion Kurt Warner received two weeks ago could prove to be the best thing for him. Coming back after a week off he looked fresh and made all the throws against an overrated Vikings Defense. The old man proved to be better than THE old man on the other sideline. Warner finished the game with 285 yards and 3 TD’s. Warner = 3 points
Drew Brees: What do MVPS do? They find ways to win games even when his team looks dead. Trailing for pretty much the entire game the Saints came back in the last two minutes with an 88 yard drive in all of 33 seconds. Brees threw for over 400 yards and 2 TD’s in the Saints OT victory to solidify that yes he does deserve the league MVP. Brees = 4 points
Defense
Sheldon Brown: Brown helped lead the Eagles assault on the Atlanta offense. They basically shut down the Falcons all game. Brown had 3 tackles and 1 INT that he returned 83 yards for a TD. Brown = 1 point
Jamar Williams: Williams was a busy man on Sunday. He helped the Bears D hold the Rams offense in neutral. Williams had 18 tackles, 13 of which were solo. Williams = 2 points
Elvis Dumervil: Dumervil continued his assault on NFL QB’s getting yet another sack on Sunday. He also had 5 tackles and helped put pressure on Cassel all day as the Broncos routed the Chiefs. Dumervil = 3 points
Jon Beason: Beason and the Panthers D made Freeman look like a rookie QB on Sunday. Beason has been playing very well of late. He finished the day with 6 tackles and 2 INT’s. Beason= 4 points
