YOU’RE FIRED: 10 Coaches on the Hot Seat
After this week each team will have nine or ten games remaining, so it is now fair to speculate what coaches could be on the outs and who could be filling their shoes. There are a lot of big name coaches out there itching to get back into it. So today I take a look at which coaches I believe won’t be returning to their teams next season.
Jim Zorn, Washington Redskins: While he probably isn’t an NFL head coach, he is definitely getting a raw deal in Washington. He was originally hired to be the offensive coordinator and has now had his play calling duties stripped by management. If Zorn wouldn’t lose the money due to him, he would resign. Instead the weird situation in DC is probably only going to get stranger the last 10 weeks of the season. Goodbye Jim Zorn and good luck in your future endeavors. Chance: 100%
Wade Phillips, Dallas Cowboys: If the Cowboys don’t make the playoffs Phillips is gone. He just isn’t a good head coach and never really has been going back to his previous stints. With an owner that expects championships and a team that doesn’t have championship talent, it is tough to expect a mediocre coach to get them there. He is best suited to be a defensive coordinator somewhere. Chance: 85%
John Fox, Carolina Panthers: The Panthers have bounced back the last two weeks but they just aren’t very good. The worst part for them is when you look at their remaining schedule. DAGGER!!!! After this season, much like in Washington you are probably going to see them go into complete rebuild mode. Chance: 100%
Raheem Morris, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Most coaches tend to get more than one season, but when you start 0-6 there are no guarantees. The team has the lowest salary cap hit in the NFL this season, it was almost like they were planning for this to happen. They have an owner that will spend money….perhaps he was willing to take it on the chin this season to prepare for the uncapped 2010-11 season. Next season, a new coach and a whole new roster possibly??? Chance: 70%
Dick Jauron, Buffalo Bills: Sorry Dick!! You are toast. Like Phillips, you are best suited to just be a coordinator. You will be able to find a team to let you do that pretty quickly I believe. The only question for you is will you make it through the season. Chance: 100%
Eric Mangini, Cleveland Browns: Another first year coach(at least with his current team) on the hot seat. It is hard to hold on to a job when you are a horrible motivator and your players hate you. You have one win. It was 6-3 over the Bills and your QB completed 2 passes. I wonder if Brady Quinn would have completed ZERO passes. Sorry mangenius, you just simply aren’t a genius. Next stop, Waffle House. Chance: 80%
Jack Del Rio, Jacksonville Jaguars: I don’t believe his job should be in jeopardy, but when your team is in a crappy market you need to put butts in the seats. Del Rio style football just isn’t entertaining and thus the butts aren’t in the seats. He will be one of the coaches on this list that would get a chance for one of the other teams firing their guy. Chance: 80%
Jeff Fisher, Tennessee Titans: I doubt this will happen, but when you go from 13-3 to 0-6 I have to put him on the list. He is one of the best coaches in football without a doubt. The problem when your team is 0-6 is that maybe your message in Tennessee has just gotten stale and the players are now tuning you out. If he is fired he will be at the top of many team’s lists, so he shouldn’t worry too much about it. Chance: 65%
Norv Turner, San Diego Chargers: Your fate was sealed on Monday night against the Broncos in one play. Third and goal from the 2, in the first quarter and you call timeout. You sub out LT and put in Sproles. Note to Turner, if you do that, throw the ball or run a toss sweep, do not run the MIDGET up the f’n middle. Case closed, you are gone. That play cost your Chargers the season and you your job. BYE BYE. Chance: 100%
Tom Cable, Oakland Raiders: I really don’t know why I have him on the list. He is a good puppet for Al Davis and will do anything to keep his job, including continuing to play Russell at QB. So I am not sure why Davis would fire him. Oh wait!! Davis is a crazy, moody, senile old man that doesn’t know what he is doing. So your guess is as good as mine here. Chance: 60%
Check back next Tuesday for who I believe should be the next coaches of these teams
