Quick Hits from Week 4: Release T.O.?

October 4, 2009 Daily Content No Comments

Washington 16, Tampa Bay 13: I guess “a win is a win” but 16 points against a bad Buccaneers defense? More of the same if you’re a Redskins fan. In the end, Jason Campbell’s 2 TD’s over-shadowed his four turnover performance as Jim Zorn lives to see another week. By the way, Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas and Fred Davis combined for 1 catch, -1 yard on Sunday. Campbell completed more passes to Aqib Talib. That 2008 draft class looks better each and every week, doesn’t it?

Chicago 48, Detroit 24: Jay Cutler continues to roll with no-name receivers and Matt Forte finally broke out, rushing for 121 yards and a TD against the Lions. The Bears are for real and the Lions are back in their comfort zone – the L column.

Houston 29, Oakland 6: I challenge you to find me an NFL starter worse than JaMarcus Russell. His latest masterpiece: 12 for 33, 128 yards. And to think that Jeff Garcia was on this roster last month.

Jacksonville 37, Tennessee 17: That’s it, I’m done picking the Titans. They’re already four games behind the Colts and it’s freaking October 4th. Vince Young’s road to Canton may start next week.

Cincinnati 23, Cleveland 20: Shayne Graham’s game-winning field goal with 7 seconds remaining in OT helped the Bengals avoid their 2nd tie in as many years. Cincy’s now tied atop of the AFC North with Baltimore at 3-1. As for Cleveland, we learned that Derek Anderson gives the Browns their best chance to compete.

NY Giants 27, Kansas City 16: Really not much to say about this one except that I didn’t like the Todd Haley hire in February and I certainly don’t like it now. Dude’s a loose cannon. And to think that pundits gave this guy props for his blow-up with Anquan Boldin last season?? What a joke. This rookie head coach thing goes way too far sometimes – for every Mike Tomlin, there’s a Todd Haley.

Indianapolis 34, Seattle 17: Who’s playing better football than Peyton Manning? Reggie Wayne is the best receiver in the NFL right now, but it’s these young guys, Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, that are stepping up and making  plays for Manning. Indy may have the AFC South wrapped by Halloween.

New England 27, Baltimore 21: An entertaining game that was over when Mark Clayton dropped a drive-saving first down. A little drama after the game: Ray Ray was none too pleased about a certain quarterback getting preferential treatment. Something tells me that we may see these two teams play again in January.

New Orleans 24, NY Jets 10: The Saints found out that they have a defense while the Jets discovered that their rookie QB is, well, a rookie. Gregg Williams’ D forced Mark Sanchez into two dagger mistakes that ultimately were the difference. The Saints now have their bye week to prepare for the Giants, who almost certainly will be 5-0 when they march into New Orleans in two weeks.

Miami 38, Buffalo 10: This won’t happen because Ralph Wilson doesn’t waste money, but just throwing it out there for Bills fans - why not just release Terrell Owens? Think about this for a second: he’s unproductive, he’s combustible, the team is 1-3 and the media is waiting to pounce. How are any of those things going to help the Buffalo Bills win football games? It’s now safe to say that Owens isn’t the same player he was two years ago. He knows it too, but it’s not his fault. It’s the coaches. Or the quarterback. He’s too proud to pin it on himself. I gave the Bills credit for signing T.O. in the off-season, but I don’t need to see anymore football to know that it’s not going to work. Cut your ties, finish the season with the guys you have and chalk it up as a loss. I guarantee that you won’t be worse for it.

San Francisco 35, St. Louis 0: If there’s one team in the NFL that knows exactly what they are on both sides of the ball, it’s the San Francisco 49ers. Even without Frank Gore, the Niners stuck to the script: run the ball, don’t make mistakes and play lights out defense. Patrick Willis is quickly becoming one of the best defensive players in football.

Denver 17, Dallas 10: Two shots from inside the 5 yard line to tie the game and Tony Romo decides to test Champ Bailey not once, but twice?? And this is the supposed franchise? HA! Let’s give props to Denver though. After an off-season chock full of turmoil, a 4-0 record was all it took for Josh McDaniels and Brandon Marshall to spark up a little bromance.

Pittsburgh 38, San Diego 28: After storming to a 28-0 lead, the Steelers fell asleep at the wheel and damn-near blew it.  Rashard Mendenhall, who we told you to pick up this week, rushed for 165 yards and 2 TD’s. Listen to us every once in a while, will ya??
