Bump and Run Players of the Week

October 19, 2009 Daily Content No Comments

On the offensive side of the ball, Brady said, “Oh you threw 4 TD’s, well I am going to throw 5. In a quarter.”  And defensively it’s quickly becoming the season of Jared Allen. Here are this week’s Bump and Run Players of the Week:

Offense

DeAngelo Williams: Williams ran out of his slump against the Bucs defense on Sunday.  The Panthers ran for over 260 yards, Williams accounted for 152 yards on 30 carries and added 2 TD’s, including the game winner with under 30 seconds remaining.  Williams = 1 point.

Matt Schaub: Schaub’s performance on Sunday was awesome.  He torched the Bengals secondary, going 28-40 for 392 yards and 4 TD’s in the 28-17 victory.  The Texans are two 4th and goal’s from the one from possibly being 5-1.  If Schaub can keep this up they will sneak in the playoffs.  Schaub = 2 points.

Drew Brees: There are not many words you can use to describe this MVP candidate that haven’t been used already.  He steps up big against the best teams and makes all the throws, but rarely does he try to force anything.  He is just a special QB.  He found every hole in the Giants defense in the Saints 48-27 victory.  He finished 23-30 for 369 yards and 4 TD’s.  Brees = 3 points.

Tom Brady: Brady must have sat in the locker room watching the QB’s play the 1 o’clock games and thought to himself, “I can’t let the league forget about me.” Well he sure as hell delivered a quarter for the record books.  He put up 5 TD’s in the 2nd quarter, and added a 6th early in the third quarter of the Pat’s 59-0 victory over the Titans.  Final numbers for the Hall of Famer 29-34 for 380 yards and the 6 TD’s in barely over a half of action. Brady = 4 points.

Defense

Clay Matthews: The rookie LB had a solid game and helped pitch a shutout against the Lions.  The son of a Hall of Famer had 5 tackles, 2 sacks and 1 additional tackle for a loss.  Matthews = 1 point.

Jared Allen: At this rate he will be in this section every week. He just seems like he is in on every play.  If he wasn’t so arrogant I’d actually cheer for him.  Against the Ravens on Sunday, he finished with 7 tackles, 1 sack and 3 more tackles behind the line of scrimmage in their thrilling 33-31 victory. Allen = 2 points.

Richard Seymour: He absolutely hated the fact he got traded to the Raiders, but he finally appears comfortable.  He harassed McNabb as the Raiders rode their defensive pressure to an upset victory.  Seymour had 4 tackles, two of which were sacks. Seymour = 3 points.

Julius Peppers: When Carolina plays Tampa you can count on Peppers stepping his game up.  In Sunday’s victory, Peppers was a dominant force.  His 7 tackles and 2 sacks earn him this week’s top spot. Peppers = 4 points.
