Bump and Run Players of the Week
Week 4 was filled with big games and many went down to the wire. The reigning MVP continues to make his case for yet another award and a young superstar comes to play each and every week on the West coast. That and more in this week’s Bump and Run Players of the Week:
Offense
4. Ronnie Brown: This guy has been flat out awesome all season for the Dolphins, however it hadn’t resulted in a victory until Sunday. The leader of the Wildcat formation does it all, running to the inside or outside. Sunday against the Bills he finished with 20 carries, for 115 yards and 2 TD’s. Brown = 1 points.
3. Steve Smith: He is now “THE” Steve Smith. Steve Smith in Carolina, you are now the “other” Steve Smith. All the experts thought the Giants passing game was in trouble this year, but Smith has stepped in and is quietly having a great season. At Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, Smith had 11 catches for 134 yards and 2 TD’s as the Giants move to 4-0 with a victory over the Chiefs. Smith = 2 points.
2. Brett Favre: Played a great game against his former team. Threw for 3 TD’s and made the Packers D look bad. It was helped by the fact the Packers didn’t blitz EVER thereby giving the old man 10 seconds to throw the ball every time he dropped back. But I’ll give Mr. Samsung LED TV his due. Favre = 3 points.
1. Peyton Manning: It appears Peyton got mad with the way Brees started the season and he wanted the attention back. This guy makes all the throws and all the right calls at the line. He is making sure that when he decides to call it a career that he will be regarded as one of the best QB’s of all time. Sunday he made the Seahawks look foolish. He ended the day 31-41 for 353 yards and 2 TD’s. Manning = 4 points.
Defense
4. Cameron Wake: The former CFL stud made his presence known in only his second NFL game. He ran around and straight through the Bills offensive line on Sunday. He had 6 tackles, 3 of which were sacks and another tackle for loss. Wake = 1 point.
3. Jared Allen: Allen flat out abused the Green Bay offensive line. He made them and Aaron Rodgers look foolish. He finished his night with 4.5 sacks. Allen = 2 points.
2. Darren Sharper: Sharper has been key to the Saints early season success on defense. He is on track to be headed to yet another pro-bowl. He picked off rookie QB Mark Sanchez twice on Sunday returning one the distance for a TD. He also had 8 tackles (5 solo). Sharper = 3 points.
1. Patrick Willis: In my opinion Willis has been the defensive POY through the first quarter of the season. He was flying around against the Rams making all types of plays. He returned an interception for a TD, and had 2.5 sacks. Willis has 8 total tackles, 5 of which were solo. Willis = 4 points.
