Bump and Run Players of the Week
As the games conclude each week, we will select the 4 top performers on each side of the ball. The players will be ranked 1-4, with player ranked number 1 receiving 4 points, player 2 receiving 3 points, player 3 receiving 2 points, and player 4 receiving 1 point. We will keep tabs all year long and the player who receives the most points at the end of the season will be the BumpAndRun.com Offensive and Defensive player of the year. And the results for week 1 are as follows:
Offense
4. Joe Flacco: Not only are the fans in Baltimore going “whacko for Flacco,” but the whole league might be doing so if he continues at this rate, 307 yards and 3 TD’s. Granted it was verse a weak opponent, but he made all the throws necessary and got the Ravens off to a 1-0 start. Flacco = 1 point.
3. Tom Brady: Playing his first game in a year, Brady started off slow. The Pats found themselves down by 11 with 5:30 seconds to go and Brady turned it on. Brady threw for 378 yards and 2 TD’s, both in the last 3 minutes for the come from behind win. Brady = 2 points.
2. Adrian Peterson: The AP show was in full force in Cleveland. He and the Vikings offense started off slow but kept pounding the ball and wore down the Browns defense. Final numbers for AP, 25 carries for 180 yards, 1 catch for 18 yards, and 3 TD’s. AP= 3 points.
1. Drew Brees: No disrespect to Tom Brady, but Drew Brees is the best QB in the game today. With the way the Saints rarely run the football, he could break a number of single season records this year. He completed 76.5% of his passes for 358 yards and 6 TD’s in a drubbing. Brees = 4 points.
Defense
4. London Fletcher: Doesn’t get much attention from the national media, but he certainly has ours. He was flying around the Meadowlands giving his best effort to keep the Skins in the game. Had 18 total tackles. If the rest of his teammates could tackle like him, the Skins defense would be legit. Fletcher = 1 point.
3. John Abraham: Part of the Atlanta defensive line that completely shut down the Dolphins offense. He abused Jake Long with a bull rush all day long. He had 2 sacks and helped apply a lot of pressure that resulted in even more sacks. Abraham = 2 points.
2. Sheldon Brown: This offseason he demanded a new contract or a trade. Neither happened, and he comes out proving he might be worth a new contract. He picked off Delhomme twice, as the Eagles shut down Carolina’s offense. Brown = 3 points.
1. Patrick Willis: In his third NFL season, Willis is quickly becoming one of the league’s premier LB’s. Against the Cardinals high profile offense Sunday, Willis led the 49ers defense with 13 tackles (11 solo) and 1 Int. Willis = 4 points.
