Bump and Run Players of the Week
Week 2 of the NFL season included a number of down to the wire, exciting games. Key players stepped up with great individual performances. With that in mind here are our players of the week.
Offense
4. Kurt Warner: In the past when the Cardinals traveled to the east coast it has been a recipe for disaster. However Kurt Warner put up a great performance leading the Cardinals to the rare east coast victory. Warner went 24-26, for 243 yards and 2 TD’s and helped Arizona rebound from a tough Week 1 loss. Warner = 1 point.
3. Andre Johnson: The Texans offense decided to wake up in Week 2 following their Week 1 nap. They were led by Johnson. This guy has the best hands in football. He catches everything thrown his way and helped lead the Texans to a bounce back victory. He finished the day with 10 catches for 149 yards and 2 TD’s. AJ = 2 points.
2. Chris Johnson: CJ put up one of the most impressive performances in recent memory. The only reason he is 2nd this week is because he could not lead the team to victory. In one of the most physical games I have watched in a long time, Johnson made the Texans D look absolutely pathetic. Final numbers for CJ: 16 carries for 197 yards and 2 TD’s, and 9 receptions for 87 yards and 1 TD… Nearly 300 total yards and 3 TD’s. In fantasy football, he alone could have beaten some teams this week. CJ = 3 points.
1. Frank Gore: This dude got it done this weekend to lead the 49ers to a 2-0 start. He made the key play at the key time. Right after Seattle had cut the lead to 13-10 to end the first half, Gore broke an 80 yard TD run to open the 3rd quarter. Gore’s two career days have both come against the Seahawks. On this day he had 2 TD runs of more than 79 yards. He had just under 250 total yards and 2 TD’s. Gore = 4 points.
Defense
4. Darrelle Revis: Led the Jets defense by shutting down Randy Moss. He smothered Moss all day long. A note to anyone playing the Jets: throw away from Revis. He is that good. Moss was held to 4 catches for 24 yards, and Revis also had an INT. Revis = 1 point.
3. Charles Woodson: The old man was an absolute beast for the Packers on Sunday but couldn’t get his team a victory. He had 10 tackles (9 solo) and 2 INT’s with one returned for a TD. Woodson = 2 points.
2. Elvis Dumervil: The Broncos shut down the Brown’s offense, thanks in large to Elvis. The former Louisville stud had 7 tackles including 4 sacks of Brady Quinn. Derek Anderson better start getting warmed up, his time is about to come because Quinn stinks. Dumervil = 3 points.
1. Antwan Odom: Another great defensive effort in a high scoring affair between the Bengals and Packers. Part of the reason Rodgers could never get the ball to Greg Jennings was the Bengals pass rush being led by Odom. Odom had 5 sacks of Rodgers and 2 more hits on the QB leading the Bengals to a crucial road victory. Odom = 4 points.
